About Pygaera timon (Hübner, 1800)

Pygaera is a monotypic moth genus belonging to the family Notodontidae. It was erected by Ferdinand Ochsenheimer in 1810, and contains only one species: Pygaera timon (Hübner, 1800). This species was first described by Jacob Hübner in 1803. Pygaera timon ranges across northern and central Europe, and extends through eastern Asia as far as Ussuri and Japan. The wingspan of the moth measures 17–19 mm. Adults fly from May to July, with flight timing varying by location. The species' larvae feed on Populus tremula, Populus alba, and Populus nigra.
