About Pycnonotus melanicterus (Gmelin, 1789)
The black-capped bulbul (scientific name Pycnonotus melanicterus (Gmelin, 1789)) is virtually crestless, with a yellow throat and brownish eyes. Males have red irides, while females have brown irides. Its upperparts are yellowish green, and its underparts are yellow. The tail is brownish and ends in a white tip. Its calls include a broad repertoire of sweet, mellow, minor-key piping whistles as well as sharper calls. Breeding records for this species fall between March and September. This bird lives in forest, dense scrub, wooded areas, and gardens. It builds its nest in a bush, and a typical clutch contains two to four eggs. The black-capped bulbul feeds on fruit and insects, and it is usually found in pairs.
