About Pycnonotus flaviventris (Tickell, 1833)
The black-crested bulbul, with the scientific name Pycnonotus flaviventris (Tickell, 1833), measures 18.5–19.5 cm in total length. It has a black head marked by a distinct crest and a yellow iris. Its upperparts are greenish yellow, while its underparts are yellow. It has a greenish-black tail, and both its bill and feet are black. The subspecies formerly classified as R. f. johnsoni has a red throat. Males and females have identical plumage patterns; juvenile black-crested bulbuls have slightly duller plumage than adults. This species lives in forest and dense scrub habitats. It builds its nest in a bush, and a typical clutch contains two to four eggs. It feeds on fruit and insects.
