About Pulchrana laterimaculata (Barbour & Noble, 1916)
Pulchrana laterimaculata, commonly called the side-spotted swamp frog, is a species of true frog belonging to the family Ranidae. Its distribution ranges across the Malay Peninsula, from southernmost Thailand through Malaysia to Singapore. It is also found in Sarawak on the island of Borneo, and on Natuna Besar, an island located in the Indonesian sector of the South China Sea. This frog species lives in lowland freshwater and peat swamp forests. Males produce their mating calls from leaf litter on the forest floor, or from perches on low vegetation less than one meter above ground. The species is locally abundant in habitats that suit it, and can also live in disturbed areas adjacent to intact, healthy forest. However, it does face local population impacts from habitat loss. It is thought to occur within several protected areas.
