About Ptyas dhumnades (Cantor, 1842)

Ptyas dhumnades is frequently confused with other species in the genus Ptyas, especially Ptyas nigromarginata, because the two species share overlapping physical features. However, Ptyas dhumnades has distinct characteristics that separate it from Ptyas nigromarginata, and it is not fully confirmed whether these two species share overlapping ranges. This species is widespread across multiple regions of South China, including Anhui, Chongqin, Gansu, Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Hebei, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Shanghai, Sichuan, Tianjin, Yunnan, and Zhejiang, as well as in Vietnam and Taiwan. It occurs at elevations ranging from 50 m to 2,000 m.
