About Ptinomorphus imperialis (Linnaeus, 1767)

Ptinomorphus imperialis is a species of beetle belonging to the family Ptinidae. It is found in the Palearctic region. It is common across Europe, reaching as far north as Denmark, the southern parts of Norway, and Finland. In England and Ireland, the species occurs only in local areas. P. imperialis lives in old deciduous forests, where its larvae feed on dead wood. Larvae develop between the bark and wood of molded, damp dead wood from a variety of deciduous tree species, which include hornbeam (Carpinus betulus), hazel (Corylus), elm (Ulmus), and linden (Tilia). Adult Ptinomorphus imperialis beetles feed on the pollen and nectar of flowering shrubs, for example blackthorn (Prunus spinosa) and hawthorn (Crataegus).
