About Ptiloris victoriae Gould, 1850

This species, commonly known as Victoria's riflebird, is the smallest of the riflebirds. Adults measure between 23 and 25 centimeters in length. Males have plumage with an iridescent purple sheen; this iridescence shifts to a more blue-green tone on the head, and to a more bronze tone on the lower breast. The male's throat is velvety black, with a metallic green and blue triangular patch at its center. Females have a pale eyebrow stripe, and their buff-colored underparts are faintly barred with brown.
