About Ptiloris magnificus (Vieillot, 1819)
Ptiloris magnificus is a medium-sized riflebird that reaches up to 34 cm (13 inches) in length. Adult males are velvet-black birds-of-paradise, with elongated black filament-like flank plumes, an iridescent blue-green crown, a wide triangle-shaped breast shield, and iridescent markings on central tail feathers. They have a black curved bill, a yellow mouth, blackish feet, and a dark brown iris. Adult females are brownish overall, with dark spots and buff-colored bars on their underparts, and a white eyebrow stripe. Immature males have similar plumage to adult males, but with less developed tail plumes.
