About Ptilinopus regina Swainson, 1825
The rose-crowned fruit dove, scientifically named Ptilinopus regina Swainson, 1825, measures 22 cm (8.7 in) in length. It has a grey head and breast, an orange belly, a whitish throat, a yellow-orange iris, and greyish green bill and feet. This species bears a pinkish-red crown with a yellow border. The Indonesian subspecies P. r. xanthogaster differs in having a whitish crown, along with paler grey head and breast. Males and females of the species look similar. Juvenile rose-crowned fruit doves have a green crown and green plumage. This dove occurs in lowland rainforests of northern and eastern Australia, and in monsoon forests of northern Australia, as well as the Lesser Sunda Islands and Maluku Islands of Indonesia. Its diet is made up primarily of various fruits from palms and vines. Females usually lay a single white egg. The species is widespread and common across its large range, and is currently evaluated as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
