About Pteroglossus viridis (Linnaeus, 1766)

This species, Pteroglossus viridis, has clear sexual dimorphism in head coloration: males have black crowns, while females have reddish brown crowns. The green aracari's diet is mostly made up of fruit, including fruits from Cecropia trees and the palm Oenocarpus bacaba. The large bill of the green aracari has serrated edges that help the bird grip and gather fruit. Insects are occasionally eaten as part of the diet, providing the birds with extra protein.
