Lichtenstein's sandgrouse, with the scientific name Pterocles lichtensteinii Temminck, 1825, is a bird species belonging to the Pteroclidae family. It is named for Martin Lichtenstein. These are nomadic, mostly nocturnal birds that drink before dawn and after dusk. This species has a broad distribution range, extending from equatorial Kenya, through the Middle East, all the way to Afghanistan. In Africa, it can also be found in Algeria, Chad, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Libya, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Niger, Senegal, Somalia, Sudan and Uganda. In Asia, it additionally occurs in Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Israel, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen.
