Swainson's spurfowl, also known as Swainson's francolin, has the scientific name Pternistis swainsonii. It is a bird species belonging to the family Phasianidae, and it is native to southern Africa. In the Shona language spoken in Zimbabwe, this bird is called chikwari or horwe, and it is considered a delicacy by outdoor and hunting enthusiasts. This species was named after William Swainson, an English ornithologist. It occurs in the grasslands and woodlands of Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Eswatini, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
