About Psychotria serpens L.

Psychotria serpens, commonly known as creeping psychotria, is a flowering plant species belonging to the Rubiaceae family. Its native range covers Peninsular Malaysia, Southeast Asia, southeastern China, Hainan, Taiwan, the Ryukyu Islands, and central and southern Japan. It is a creeping or climbing perennial liana, most often found in thickets and forests at elevations between 100 and 1,400 meters (300 and 4,600 feet) above sea level. In traditional Chinese medicine preparations marketed to people with cancer, it is frequently used as a substitute for "Caulis Trachelospermi", which comes from Trachelospermum jasminoides.
