About Psolos fuligo (Mabille, 1876)
This small butterfly, Psolos fuligo, has a wingspan ranging from 36 to 46 millimetres, or 1.4 to 1.8 inches. Males and females have a similar appearance, except males have a prominent brand on the underside of their forewing. The upperside of the butterfly is plain brown. The underside shares this brown coloration but is paler. Diffused greyish-purple markings appear on the tip of the underside of the forewing, and a series of pale spots are present in spaces 4 through 9. Similar spots are also found on the underside of the hindwing, in spaces 2 through 7 and at the end of the cell. This species ranges from India to Southeast Asia and the Indonesian archipelago, with India forming its western boundary. In peninsular India, it occurs in the Western Ghats, and it is also found from Assam to Arunachal Pradesh, in other states of northeast India, and extending into Bangladesh and southern Myanmar. In Southeast Asia, it occurs in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Laos, the Philippines, and possibly southern China. In the Indonesian archipelago, it occurs in Borneo, Java, Sumatra, Sipora, Bali, Palawan, Sulawesi and Banggai. This butterfly is common in India.
