About Psilopogon oorti (S.Müller, 1836)

The black-browed barbet (scientific name Psilopogon oorti (S.Müller, 1836)) is mostly green, with a yellow throat bordered by blue. It has black streaks above its eyes, and red patches above its bill, on the lores, throat, and nape. One measured female was 21.5 cm (8.5 in) long and weighed 62 g (2.2 oz). It inhabits montane and dipterocarp forests at elevations between 600 and 2,000 m (2,000 and 6,600 ft) in western Sumatra and Peninsular Malaysia. It forages for insects and fruits in the upper and middle levels of the forest canopy. In Sumatra, it breeds from February to November, while in Malaysia it breeds from March to June. It builds its nests in tree holes.
