About Psilopogon mystacophanos (Temminck, 1824)

This species, the red-throated barbet (Psilopogon mystacophanos), shows distinct differences in plumage between males, females, and juvenile individuals. Adult males are primarily green, with red markings on the crown, throat, and a spot located below the throat. They also have a black spot above each eye, a yellow patch on the crown, and blue coloration near the eyes and on the lower portion of the throat. Females are similar to males in overall appearance, but lack most of the distinct facial coloration that males have. Juvenile red-throated barbets look similar to females. Full-grown adult red-throated barbets measure 23 cm (9.1 in) in length, and weigh between 60 and 95 g (2.1–3.4 oz).
