Psilopogon flavifrons has green plumage, marked by a yellow crown and blue patches located below the eyes, on the throat, and on the chin. The species measures 21–22 cm (8.3–8.7 in) in length and weighs 57–60 g (2.0–2.1 oz). Its diet consists of berries and fruits, with insects eaten occasionally. It nests inside tree holes, where it lays a clutch of 2 to 3 eggs.
