About Psilocybe fuscofulva Peck
Psilocybe fuscofulva Peck is a species of mushroom that grows on Sphagnum moss, and more rarely on decaying wood, in peat bogs of North America and Europe. Along with Psilocybe fimetaria, it is one of the only two Psilocybe species that have been found to contain no psilocybin or psilocin. Phylogenetic placement shows that it is closely related to Psilocybe silvatica and Psilocybe semilanceata. This species was previously most widely known under the name Psilocybe atrobrunnea. The holotype of Psilocybe atrobrunnea does not exist, and its designated neotype has been lost. Psilocybe fuscofulva was previously treated as a synonym of Psilocybe atrobrunnea, but it has an existing holotype, so the name Psilocybe fuscofulva was resurrected to replace the older name. Psilocybe fuscofulva is considered inedible.
