About Pseudothyatira cymatophoroides (Guenée, 1852)

Pseudothyatira is a monotypic moth genus in the family Drepanidae, first described by Augustus Radcliffe Grote in 1864. The genus contains only one species, Pseudothyatira cymatophoroides, commonly called the tufted thyatirid moth. This species was first described by Achille Guenée in 1852. It occurs in North America, with recorded populations in Newfoundland, British Columbia, northern California, Maryland, West Virginia, Kansas, and North Carolina. The wingspan of adult moths ranges from 38 to 44 mm. Adults fly from June to September, with flight timing varying by location. Larvae of this species feed on Betula nigra, Betula populifolia, and Prunus virginiaca.
