About Pseudonympha detecta Trimen, 1914

Pseudonympha detecta Trimen, 1914 is also known as Cassionympha detecta, commonly called the Cape brown. It is a butterfly species belonging to the family Nymphalidae. This butterfly is found in South Africa. Its distribution ranges from the mountains of the Western Cape between the Cederberg and Swartberg down to the coast, then continues along the south-east coast and hills into the Eastern Cape, and extends into the Great Karoo. Males have a wingspan of 33–37 mm, while females have a wingspan of 34–38 mm. Adult Cape brown butterflies are active from September to April, with their activity peaking between October and March. The larvae of this species feed on a variety of sedges and restios. Recorded host plants include Ficinia ramosissima, Ficinia elongata, Restio tenuissimus, and other Restio species. Ficinia acuminate is a possibly recorded host plant.
