About Pseudomogoplistes squamiger (Fischer, 1853)

Pseudomogoplistes squamiger, commonly called the scaly cricket, is an apterous cricket species belonging to the family Mogoplistidae. This species was long classified within the genus Mogoplistes. In 1984, A. V. Gorochov moved it to the genus Pseudomogoplistes, and this species became the type species of the new genus. In terms of distribution and habitat, this species is typically found near the sea on pebble beaches. Its native range covers southern Europe and northern Africa. However, it has been recorded in Dorset in the British Isles since the 1960s, with later records also coming from Devon.
