About Pseudoeurycea leprosa (Cope, 1869)

Pseudoeurycea leprosa is a species of salamander in the family Plethodontidae, and it is endemic to Mexico. This species is primarily distributed across northern and central Mexico. New species that share genetic similarities with existing Pseudoeurycea leprosa continue to be discovered; researchers identified these similarities by analyzing the base pairs of multiple Pseudoeurycea species collected from different regions of Mexico. The natural habitat of Pseudoeurycea leprosa is subtropical or tropical moist montane forests. This species is threatened by habitat loss. Extensive genetic divergence occurs between the eastern and central populations of Pseudoeurycea leprosa, which is caused by habitat isolation.
