About Pseudochirulus herbertensis (Collett, 1884)
The Herbert River ringtail possum, scientifically named Pseudochirulus herbertensis, is a species of possum that lives in northeastern Queensland, Australia. This species ranges in color from dark brown to black, and individuals sometimes have a white belly. For a long time, the Herbert River ringtail possum was classified as the same species as the cinereus ringtail possum (P. cinereus), even though the two differ greatly in appearance. Despite this classification history, both of these possums are the only members of their New Guinea-centred genus that occur in Australia. The Herbert River ringtail possum has a limited range, found only in tropical rainforest between Mount Lee (west of Ingham) and the Lamb Range (west of Cairns).
