About Pseudobalistes naufragium (Jordan & Starks, 1895)

The stone triggerfish, scientifically named Pseudobalistes naufragium (Jordan & Starks, 1895), can grow up to 1 metre (3.3 ft) in length, though most individuals are around half this size. Its body is entirely covered in platelike scales, with the only exception being a scaleless patch located behind its jaws. This species has 16 strong, protruding teeth, with 8 teeth in each jaw. The stone triggerfish inhabits reefs and sandy-bottomed areas in the eastern Pacific Ocean, and its range extends from Baja California, Mexico, down to Chile.
