About Pseudamycla dermestoidea (Lamarck, 1822)
This species of sea snail has a shell whose length ranges between 5 mm and 10 mm. The small shell is ovate, oblong, smooth, and polished. Its whitish, somewhat obtuse spire is made up of five or six slightly convex whorls. The shell is covered with small, ocellated, reddish points that form an indistinct network. Above the sutures, the shell is surrounded by a small band of alternating white and red spots, while the lower part is marked by another brown band, which is sometimes broken by distant white spots. The middle of the body whorl is surrounded by a subcrenulated red band that is interrupted by white spots. At the base of the whorl, transverse striae and a small brown band can be seen. The aperture is ovate, and the thin outer lip is slightly denticulated. This species is endemic to Australia, and is found off the coasts of Western Australia, New South Wales, South Australia, Victoria, and Tasmania.
