About Psammophis leightoni Boulenger, 1902
Psammophis leightoni Boulenger, 1902 is a slender snake. This species has eight upper labial scales, with the fourth and fifth upper labials making contact with the eye. Its smooth dorsal scales are arranged in 17 rows at midbody. Adult males of this species reach longer lengths than females. The maximum recorded snout-to-vent length (SVL) for a male is 96 cm (38 in), while the maximum recorded snout-to-vent length for a female is 80 cm (31 in). Psammophis leightoni occurs in fynbos, veld, and the Karoo, Kalahari, and Namib desert biomes across South Africa, Botswana, and Namibia, and also in a small area of coastal southern Angola. This species is oviparous. Its typical clutch size is around eight eggs, and newly hatched individuals measure 22โ24 cm (8.7โ9.4 in) in total length including the tail.
