About Protosticta gravelyi Laidlaw, 1915
Protosticta gravelyi Laidlaw, 1915 is a large, slender damselfly species that has bottle-green eyes. Its thorax is glossy black, with a broad creamy-white stripe on each side, and a similar stripe located on the posterior part of the metepimeron. The abdomen is black, marked with white and blue. Segments 1 and 2 have white markings on their lateral sides. Segment 3 has a narrow basal annule, while segments 4 through 7 have broad basal annules. The basal half of segment 8 is turquoise-blue, and segments 9 and 10 have no markings. The anal appendages are black. Females are very similar in appearance to males, but are shorter and more robust in build. This damselfly is typically found in first and second order streams that have good riparian forest cover. Adult individuals fly very close to the ground and rest in riparian vegetation.
