Protosticta gravelyi Laidlaw, 1915 is a large, slender damselfly species that has bottle-green eyes. Its thorax is glossy black, with a broad creamy-white stripe on each side, and a similar stripe located on the posterior part of the metepimeron. The abdomen is black, marked with white and blue. Segments 1 and 2 have white markings on their lateral sides. Segment 3 has a narrow basal annule, while segments 4 through 7 have broad basal annules. The basal half of segment 8 is turquoise-blue, and segments 9 and 10 have no markings. The anal appendages are black. Adult individuals fly very close to the ground and rest in riparian vegetation.
