About Protea lepidocarpodendron (L.) L.

Protea lepidocarpodendron, commonly known as the black bearded sugarbush, is a bearded species of Protea classified in the section Speciosae. This plant grows to between 1 and 2 meters in height, and bears narrowly oblong leaves. Its flowerheads are oblong, featuring a purple-black beard and black hairs located below the beard. It typically grows in sandstone, fericrete, and granite soils, and occurs in the Western Cape of South Africa, ranging from Cape Town to Kleinmond. This species is classified as near-threatened.
