Protea coronata Lam. is an erect shrub that typically grows between 2 and 3 meters (6 feet 7 inches to 9 feet 10 inches) tall, though individuals are known to reach a maximum height of 5 meters (16 feet). This species produces lanceolate leaves and apple-green flower heads; the foliage around the flower head turns purple-green as it develops. Its stems are covered in hairs, and it flowers between the months of April and September. It grows in dense stands on heavy clay soils, found in the Western Cape of South Africa and the van Stadens region of the Eastern Cape.
