About Protambulyx goeldii Rothschild & Jordan, 1903

Protambulyx goeldii is a moth species that belongs to the family Sphingidae. It was first formally described by Walter Rothschild and Karl Jordan in 1903. This species is distributed in Brazil, Colombia, Guyana, Bolivia, southern Nicaragua, and Costa Rica, and it is thought to also be present in Panama. It closely resembles the related species Protambulyx astygonus, but can be distinguished by a distinct discal spot found on the upperside of its forewing. There are also additional differences in the patterning of the hindwing upperside: the distal edge of the wing is straighter, the antemedian line is less curved, the median line is completely absent, and the submarginal line is less dentate. It is likely that adults of this species are active in flight throughout the year. Recorded sightings of adult Protambulyx goeldii in Bolivia confirm they have been encountered there in April and October.
