About Prosternon tessellatum (Linnaeus, 1758)

Prosternon tessellatum, scientifically named Prosternon tessellatum (Linnaeus, 1758), reaches an approximate body length of 10–12 millimetres (0.39–0.47 inches). These beetles have a hairy blackish-brown pronotum and striped elytra, with paler silk-haired gray-yellow to gold-shining patches. They are quite similar in appearance to the smaller species Agrypnus murinus. This species is widespread across Europe, Asia, and the Nearctic realm. Its habitats include mountain areas, coniferous forests, dry forest edges, and forest meadows, and it can also be found in heathland, moors, dunes, and gardens.
