Neltuma laevigata, formerly classified as Prosopis laevigata, is commonly called smooth mesquite. It is a species of flowering tree belonging to the pea family, Fabaceae. This tree is native to Mexico and Texas in the United States. Within Mexico, it occurs in the country's central highlands, the lowlands of southern Tamaulipas, and parts of Oaxaca, Morelos, Puebla, and Chiapas. It can grow in a variety of habitats, including hillslides, depressions, and along floodplains. It has also been observed growing in the Middle East.
