About Prosopis caldenia Burkart
This species of flowering tree in the family Fabaceae is currently classified as Neltuma caldenia, and was previously known under the scientific name Prosopis caldenia Burkart. It is commonly called the caldén. The tree is endemic to the subtropical regions of Argentina. It grows best in sandy, arid soil, tolerates drought well, and develops an extremely deep root system. Its leaves are small, deciduous, alternate, and pinnately compound. The tree’s foliage grows in a tortuous pattern, with paired conical spines growing at the nodes.
