About Promalactis suzukiella (Matsumura, 1932)

Promalactis suzukiella, commonly known as Suzuki's promalactis moth, is a moth species belonging to the family Oecophoridae. It is native to Korea, Japan, and Taiwan, and has been introduced to the United States. The species was first recorded in mid-Atlantic U.S. states in the early 2000s. By 2020, its introduced range had expanded to include Texas and most U.S. states east of the Mississippi River, excluding Florida, northern New England, and Michigan. The forewings of this moth measure 4.5 to 7 mm in length. Adult moths can be found in flight from March through late September, which indicates the species produces at least two, and possibly more, generations per year. The larvae of Promalactis suzukiella feed under the bark of rotting logs from Prunus virginiana, Quercus species, and Prunus persica.
