The scientific name of this species is Promachus yesonicus Bigot, 1887. Male Promachus yesonicus have a white, cotton-like bud at the tip of their abdomen, while females do not possess this feature. Adult individuals of this species reach a body length between 23 and 30 millimetres, which is equal to 0.9 to 1.2 inches. This species is distributed across all of Japan, ranging from Hokkaido in the north to Okinawa in the south. Adult Promachus yesonicus can be seen from June through September each year.
