About Pristimantis w-nigrum (Boettger, 1892)
Pristimantis w-nigrum (Boettger, 1892) has been measured for snout-vent length: males range from 29 to 47 mm (1.1 to 1.9 in), while females range from 44 to 57 mm (1.7 to 2.2 in). Live individuals can be easily identified by their distinct color pattern: yellow base color with black markings located on the groin, the anterior and posterior surfaces of the thighs, and the concealed section of the shank. The tympanum of this species is distinct. The natural habitats of Pristimantis w-nigrum are cloud forest and sub-páramo, but the species also lives in deforested and disturbed areas. It is a nocturnal species; at night, it can be found perched on vegetation up to 3 metres above ground, and during the day it rests on fallen leaves. While Pristimantis w-nigrum is a common species overall, its populations have declined in many areas.
