About Pristimantis appendiculatus (Werner, 1894)

Pristimantis appendiculatus, commonly called the Pinocchio rainfrog, is a species of frog belonging to the family Strabomantidae. This species occurs on the Pacific slopes of the Andes in Ecuador, and also in the extreme southern part of Colombia, specifically the Colombian Massif in Nariño Department. It is a common species in both undisturbed habitats and secondary habitats. Its native natural habitats are montane cloud forests, but existing populations can also survive in secondary growth areas that have dense, intact vegetation cover. This species is currently facing threats from habitat loss driven by agricultural development, logging, and human settlement expansion. It is also threatened by pollution that comes from the spraying of illegal crops.
