About Pristiapogon exostigma (Jordan & Starks, 1906)
Pristiapogon exostigma, commonly called the Eyeshadow cardinalfish or oneline cardinalfish, is a small pale ray-finned fish that belongs to the cardinalfish family Apogonidae. This species reaches a maximum length of 11 centimeters. It has a black stripe that ends in a lighter color, with a black spot located above the center of the stripe. Its native range covers the Indo-Pacific region, stretching from the Red Sea to the Line Islands and Mangareva Islands, extending south to northern Australia and north to the Ryukyu Islands. During the day, Pristiapogon exostigma shelters under rock ledges. It can also be found among isolated coral heads in the silty, sheltered areas of reefs. This is a solitary, rather rare, nocturnal species that feeds on fishes and invertebrates. It is a mouthbrooding species, and individuals form pairs when courting.
