Retz's helmetshrike, with the scientific name Prionops retzii first described by Wahlberg in 1856, is a bird species that belongs to the helmetshrike family Vangidae. It was previously usually classified within the family Malaconotidae. This species occurs in Angola, Botswana, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Eswatini, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Somalia, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forests, subtropical or tropical mangrove forests, and subtropical or tropical moist shrubland.
