About Prinia striata Swinhoe, 1859

The striped prinia, scientifically known as Prinia striata, is also commonly called Swinhoe's prinia. It is a bird species that belongs to the Cisticolidae family. This species was previously grouped together with the Himalayan prinia (P. crinigera) under the single name striated prinia. It was officially split from the Himalayan prinia after a study of the group was published in 2019. The species is found across mainland China and Taiwan. It occurs in the same geographic area as P. crinigera in China’s Yunnan Province. Three subspecies of Prinia striata are currently recognized. The subspecies P. s. catharia has a range that extends from northeast India, through Myanmar, to south-central China. The subspecies P. s. parumstriata is distributed across central and southeast China. The nominate subspecies P. s. striata is found only in Taiwan.
