About Primula auricula subsp. auricula

This evergreen perennial, Primula auricula subsp. auricula, reaches 20 cm (8 in) in height and 25 cm (10 in) in width. Its obovate, stalkless leaves grow in a basal rosette and have a cartilaginous edge. The leaves are sometimes covered in a mealy white bloom. Yellow flowers grow in clusters on stalks that are 5–20 cm (2–8 in) long. The specific epithet auricula means "ear-shaped", a reference to the shape of the plant's leaves. In cultivation, this plant has received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. In the UK, two National Collections of auriculas are held by Hillview Hardy Plants nursery on a 1 acre (0.4 ha) plot located in Worfield, Shropshire.
