About Prepona laertes (Hübner, 1811)

Prepona laertes, commonly known as the shaded-blue leafwing or Laertes prepona, is a butterfly species belonging to the family Nymphalidae. This species can be found across large portions of Central and South America. Its wingspan reaches approximately 88 mm. Prepona laertes is a highly variable species, and a great many subspecies and forms have been described in scientific literature. Most of these previously described subspecies and forms are currently treated as synonyms. The larvae of Prepona laertes feed on the plant species Inga vera, Inga ruiziana, and Andira inermis.
