About Prepona demophon (Linnaeus, 1758)
Prepona demophon, first described by Linnaeus in 1758, has a wingspan of approximately 54 to 58 millimeters, which equals 2.1 to 2.3 inches. The upper surface of its wings is black, marked with bright pale blue transverse bands. The lower surface of the wings is pale brown, with a more distinct band across the middle of the hindwings and several small dark dots along the wing margins. This species is distributed across Mexico, Central America, the West Indies, and the northern parts of South America. It inhabits the edges of forest canopies and subcanopies (this species is also referenced under the synonym Archaeoprepona demophon in habitat descriptions).
