About Povolnya quercinigrella (Ely, 1915)

Povolnya quercinigrella, also known as Caloptilia quercinigrella, is a moth species in the family Gracillariidae. It is widely distributed across eastern North America, occurring in the United States as far south as Florida and Texas, and in Ontario, Canada. This moth has a wingspan of approximately 10 mm. In North Carolina, adult Povolnya quercinigrella are active between March and April. The species' larvae feed on Quercus species, including Quercus nigra, by mining the leaves of their host plant.
