The ocellate river stingray, scientifically named Potamotrygon motoro, also goes by the common names peacock-eye stingray and black river stingray. It is a species of freshwater stingray that belongs to the family Potamotrygonidae. It was the first species ever described within the Potamotrygonidae family, and it is also the most widespread species in the family. Its distribution covers most of the Río de la Plata, Amazon, Mearim, and Orinoco basins, located in tropical and subtropical South America. This species is sometimes kept in aquaria.
