Potamogeton nodosus Poir. is an aquatic plant species commonly called longleaf pondweed and Loddon pondweed. It is native to Eurasia and the Americas, where it is widespread. It grows in water bodies including ponds, lakes, ditches, and streams. This perennial herb produces a thin, branching stem that can easily grow over one meter long at maximum. It has two types of leaves: submerged leaves are linear to widely lance-shaped, reaching up to 15 centimeters long and 4 centimeters wide, while floating leaves have a shorter maximum length and are ovate or elliptic in shape. A key distinguishing feature of this species is that both floating and submerged leaves grow on long petioles. Its inflorescence is a spike made up of many small flowers, which rises above the water on a peduncle.
