About Potamogeton amplifolius Tuck.
Potamogeton amplifolius, commonly called largeleaf pondweed or broad-leaved pondweed, is an aquatic plant native to North America. It grows in water bodies including lakes, ponds, and rivers, and is often found in deep water. This is a perennial plant that grows from rhizomes, and produces a very slender, cylindrical stem that can sometimes be spotted, reaching up to around one meter in length. This species produces two distinct forms of leaves. Submersed leaves can grow up to 20 centimeters long and 7 centimeters wide, and may be folded along their midribs. These submersed leaves have more veins than the leaves of other pondweed species, with up to 49 veins per leaf. Floating leaves can grow up to 10 centimeters long and 5 centimeters wide, have a leathery texture, and are attached to long petioles. The inflorescence is a spike that holds many flowers, and rises above the water surface on a thick peduncle.
