Posoqueria latifolia (Rudge) Schult. is a shrub or tree that grows 3 to 25 meters tall. It has smooth gray bark and many branches. Its terminal inflorescence holds stalked, elongated tubular flowers adapted for pollination by large moths. These flowers produce nectar, are fragrant, showy, white, and have five petals. The species produces yellow fruits that hold many seeds. It grows in lowland tropical rainforest and cloud forest across Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, French Guiana, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Suriname, and Venezuela. Ecologically, its flowers are pollinated by moths, its fruit is eaten by mammals, and its seeds are dispersed by animals including monkeys. The yellow fruit is edible, and can taste either sweet or unpleasant. This species is also grown as an ornamental plant.
