About Porcellionides pruinosus (Brandt, 1833)

Porcellionides pruinosus (Brandt, 1833) is a cosmopolitan detritivorous woodlouse native to Europe. It is suspected to be formed of a group of very closely related species, and ten subspecies are currently recognized for this taxon. This species hosts Wolbachia endosymbionts, which are alpha-proteobacteria known to alter the reproduction of their crustacean hosts. Wolbachia endosymbionts modify host reproduction by inducing either cytoplasmic incompatibility or feminization.
