Porcellio spinicornis Say, 1818 is a medium-sized species of Porcellio, usually measuring between 10 and 15 millimeters in length. Its body can be dark gray, brown, light brown, or yellow, marked with two rows of yellow blotches. This species has a glossy exoskeleton with minor granulation. While it displays a wide range of different colorations, all individuals have dark heads and dark pleons (the final 5 body segments), even with variation in shape, color, and overall size. Porcellio spinicornis occurs in a diverse array of habitats across Europe, including forests, grasslands, and rocky areas. It is also an introduced species found in North America. It has a broad distribution and is regarded as common in many regions it occupies. As a detritivore, Porcellio spinicornis feeds on a wide variety of dead plant material, such as leaves, twigs, and bark. It is a nocturnal species that is generally active during the night.
